Mixes // Will.CO – @ Syrup 30/10/2009

Hey guys!
Will.CO takes timeout from his ‘God vs. Will.CO” series and gives us a recording of his support set for Bexta at Syrup in late October. Here’s his thoughts:

“This is the mix that I played at the last Bexta Mixology launch @ PICKLE VS PITCH BLACK @ SYRUP in October.
It was an awesome night and from the reaction of the crowd and the feedback I was given every one really liked it so I went home and recorded it so that I could send it out to you all to enjoy again.
Thanks a lot to those of you that stayed & danced hard till the lights came on to make it such an enjoyable night for me as well, its your support and enjoyment of what I do that makes me love playing trance whenever I get the chance.”

I was there and I can confirm there was much shaking of booty during the set. Enjoy!

Mixes // NJC – TrashTEK Mix

Hey Gang!
Today’s mix comes from NJC, so you know it’s gonna be Techno. Here’s his thoughts on this one:

“Here’s a mix that I put together for the first TraskTek. With another TraskTek coming in January, and I ♥ Techno (Dec 11th @ Syrup) and Pitch Black: Summerstyle coming up before then I thought I’d better get it out there. Starting out driving, going through the Latin, tribal sound that’s becoming a bit of a trademark for me, then on to some bangin’ stuff, there should be something for pretty much anyone on this. Enjoy the mix, and I hope to see some of you on the 11th.”

Get it, play it LOUD! Go see this man @ Syrup next Friday night if you are a local, you won’t be disappointed!

Mixes // Liv – Spektrum 01

Hey Gang! This week’s mix comes from Hobart’s First Lady Of Trance, Liv. It’s the first instalment in what she’s hoping will become a series of mixes (like my Late Night Deep sets) and it has the GREAT name Spektrum. Wish I hadda thought of that name first, dammit. Here’s what the lady herself had to say about the mix:

“This is the first of many Spektrum mixes still to come.
As the name might suggest, it’s my way of showcasing a few different styles of trance, all in the space of an hour. Enjoy!”

I really hope you enjoy this set as much as I have, and I hope we don’t wait too long for the next Spektrum mix!

Mixes // Will.co – And On the 7th Day God Created Trance… And WILL.Co was HAPPY!

Hey Gang!
Got a treat for you today (and one tomorrow as well ;) ) from another local stalwart: WILL.Co . He has been playing around Hobart for several years now, either on his own or head to head with another local fave, AlexQK. WILL.Co mainly sticks to the harder end of the spectrum, but he’s not afraid to mix it up to keep the punters on his toes. This mix is a great example of that.
If you are in town you can catch WILL.Co playing support to Amber Savage @ Halo this evening.

Mixes // Texas – Late Night Deep 9/9/09

Hey Listeners!
Sorry I have been a bit slack – combo of hectic times at work and a holiday! This post comes to you from the heart of Essendon, Victoria!
Time for one of my mixes this week. As I have said in the past I struggle to find new names for them all the time, so I stick to ‘generic’ ones based on the style. This is a Late Night Deep, so it’s (obviously) at the deeper end of the House spectrum.
This mix is an odd one in that I recorded it initially about a month ago, listened back… but wasn’t happy with it. And I couldn’t work out why. So I asked some friends to have a ‘critical’ listen and they all suggested that the final third wasn’t ‘matched’ to the first 2/3 of the mix. So I put it aside for awhile and then came back to it and had another crack. This time I was much happier with the results, and I really hope you enjoy listening as much I did making it.

Texas – Late Night Deep 9/9/09
16 Bit Lolitas – Nobody Seems To Care feat Jennifer Horne (Original Mix)
Black Science Orchestra – Save Us (Mark Knights Rulin Mix)
Funkagenda & Exacta – Mad Money (Kim Fai’s Kredit Krunch Remix)
Jaytech – Metro (Original Mix)
Komytea – 9 (Original Mix)
Faithless – Music Matters Ft. Cass Fox (Mark Knight Remix)
16 Bit Lolitas – Murder Weapon (Original Mix)
Above & Beyond pres OceanLab – Breaking Ties (Jaytech & James Grant Remix)

Mixes // Cam – Rue D’Mente (We Will All Remember)

First a note from me, Texas.
It’s been a tough week for many of us in Hobart; we lost a good friend last Sunday. He was a gentle giant of a man, incredibly talented artistically, funny and kind. I’ll always remember him for sneaking up behind me when I’m mixing and slowing down one deck on purpose and then looking all innocent when I spun around.
Tarsh, I hope you find peace mate. You will be forever missed.

Cam is a newcomer to the DJ scene in Hobart, who has been building his craft playing recently at Cargo. I’ve been after him for a mix for a long while… and I was pleasantly surprised to find this in my inbox on a gloomy Monday. I’ve just included Cam’s words as they are:

“I recorded this mix last Saturday night (29 August) without any real intention or purpose to it – it’s just a selection of tracks I’ve collected over the last year or so that I thought were, well, “nice”. Listening to it later, I thought that while it doesn’t really follow a conventional progression, it does seem to move through a variety of moods and emotions. Of course, I had no idea at the time that around 36 hours later I would learn of the tragic passing of a very good friend to many of us. The timing of the two may well mean that I will always remember the feelings that I, and I expect many others, have felt at this time whenever I listen to this mix or indeed, some of the tracks within it. Here it is for others to enjoy if they so please.

This is by no means a ’sad’ mix and it is fitting that all of the memories and experiences I had with Tarsh were good times. By coincidence, the last track on this mix is quite fitting… for the good times, Tarsh – we will all remember.”

Mixes // NJC – Technoillogical: The Mad Scientist Mix

Hey Gang!
This mid-weekend pick-me-up comes from NJC. After emerging from his basement laboratory he sent me the mix and the following:

“Time to present the music that got me so fired up that I had to pick up the CDs, only to put them down again for the Xponent. This is a bit of an experimental mix, seeing what the software and the controller can do. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. Some of it seems to work, some, not so much. But it’s all interesting, funky, and (I think) cool. Please leave comments, even if you really don’t like it (actually, if you don’t like it, and can say why, I really want to hear).”

I was lucky enough to get an insight into NJC’s creative process when I was able to listen to an early version of this mix: it didn’t change too much… it was refined. Again, and I must admit it’s an advantage of running the blog that I get to listen to the mixes before I post them, I have enjoyed playing this mix a few times over the past few days. As NJC said he’s after feedback for this one, both good OR bad, so feel free to leave a comment or head over to the Facebook page and make a comment on the wall.

Mixes // Discotouch – Funk Station

Hey Listeners!
Mr Discotouch is back with another dose of his funky flavour of House. When I asked him for some words about the mix he fired this back to me:

“Discotouch pulls into the Funky Station, and blends together his favourite genres of dance music – funk, disco, smooth vocals and lashings of Latin percussion. This mix shows how he can effortlessly move between styles during a set while keeping the groove alive!”

Well, I can certainly testify to it’s high rating on the ‘Head Nod’ scale; it’s been keeping me going this morning while I’m working. Get downloading, Peeps!
